Cosmas holds a Doctorate in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics from the University of the Witwatersrand and has more than 15 years' experience in the field of Materials Fabrication and Characterisation. In his current post as Director: Power, at the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), Cosmas is responsible for Hydrogen and Energy Storage technologies. His main role is to interact with public and private sectors in South Africa in order to develop and strengthen public private partnerships that are essential in promoting the uptake of emerging low carbon energy technologies. His portfolio at DSI mainly focuses on technologies that beneficiate mineral resources found in South Africa and neighbouring countries. Cosmas' research work in both academia and industry has covered areas of renewable energy, environment friendly materials and precious metal alloys. Dr Chiteme’s current interests are in strategy development, clean energy technology and innovation management, technology commercialisation in collaboration with both national and international partners.
