Karen has been in infrastructure development for more than 20 years and has experience in public-private partnerships in the water, transport, energy, health, and accommodation sectors, as well as the funding of private sector participation in infrastructure development. She has a financial background, worked for the Development Bank of Southern Africa, the National Treasury PPP Unit establishing the Finance Desk in the PPP Unit, and instrumental in the conceptualizing and design of the world renowned renewable energy Independent Power Producer (REIPP) programme. As the former Head of the IPP Office in South Africa, she was responsible and led the team of professionals and experts, to procure more than 102 renewable energy projects (6 400 MW) within 4 years, and successfully close 92 projects (USD13 billion) by April 2018. The IPP Office has a strong implementation and monitoring team ensuring value for money to the electricity consumers. She is now the proud co-owner of Juniper Advisory Services, a consulting and investment "impact" business, focusing on energy and water, with emphasis on sustainable and inclusive transformation. Karen has a keen interest in green hydrogen and its role in a low-carbon, sustainable future. She is also a proponent of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, ensuring a better future for all.
