Mary is a professional engineer with degrees from Stanford University and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. She has over 14 years’ experience delivering exceptional environmental and social sustainability outcomes in the built environment, and seeks integrated solutions to create healthier, safer and more liveable cities. Mary now leads the City of Cape Town’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Facilitation and Promotion team, enabling a wide range of projects within the Sustainable Energy Markets department. Through considered communication campaigns and projects that seek to overcome institutional barriers, Mary aims to unlock energy choices for a better future. With experience in the solar PV industry, Mary hopes that by creating an enabling environment, the City of Cape Town can facilitate further uptake of small-scale embedded generation and new technologies such as Electric Vehicles to put us on the path to carbon neutrality by 2050.
