Mr Nhlanhla Ngidi holds a Masters in Business Leadership (MBL), Post Graduate Degree in Management Development (MDP), Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering Heavy Current (B-Tech) and a National Diploma in Power Engineering. He is a registered professional engineer with ECSA, and a member of the SAIEE, He is also and alumni of the United States International Leadership Programme. Mr Ngidi has held several Directorships in organisations such as Energy and Water SETA and the National Laboratories Association etc, served in different subcommittees such as Financial Subcommittee, Audit and Risk Committees and as Chairperson of the Energy Sub-committees, recently reappointed as Board Member at EWSETA, an Advisory Board member of the PowerGen and Distributech Africa. He also played a role as a renewable energy expert in the SADC region as an External Expert advising the Regional Electricity Regulator’s Association of Southern Africa (RERA). Mr Ngidi has over 20 years’ experience in the Electricity Supply Industry in South Africa and SADC region. He is currently the Head of Electricity and Energy at South African Local Government Association (SALGA).
With substantial regulatory experience having worked for the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) as well as several years of experience in local government utilities and Eskom, Mr Ngidi in his SALGA position is currently playing a pivotal role in the industry advocating for policy reforms enabling the municipalities to embrace the current energy transition and to achieve smart and sustainable energy business models.
