Director for the Green Hydrogen Programme, University of the Western Cape
Dr Stanford Chidziva joined University of the Western Cape (UWC) in 2008 as a Scientific officer at the South African Institute of Advanced Material Chemistry (SAIAMC), he is currently Director for the Green Hydrogen Programme. Dr Stanford’s research experience in the renewable energy space led him to explore studies in Hydrogen Safety at a world- renowned university in Hydrogen Safety, Ulster University in the United Kingdom. He graduated with a M.Sc. in Hydrogen Safety Engineering in 2014 with a Cum Laude, thus becoming one of the first few Hydrogen safety experts in South Africa. Dr Stanford embarked on his Doctoral studies in 2016 within the renewable energy field and successfully completed his PhD work in the year 2020. Dr Chidziva successfully designed and integrated a Green Hydrogen Production prototype system, in collaboration with a leading international electrolyser company, a 10kW Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Water Electrolyser (PEMWE) with a hydrogen production rate of 2 Nm3/hr and a hydrogen discharge pressure of 20 bars. The system was commissioned for field testing in Vredendal, Western Cape Province as the first Green Hydrogen Production facility in South Africa in 2022. Dr Stanford is currently looking into Green Hydrogen Development as an academic expert with industrial partners.
